Meet The Subject Coordinator

Mrs A. Carson

Geography Coordinator

My passion/ personal experiences with geography:

As Geography Lead, I am passionate about inspiring children to develop a curiosity and understanding of the world around them. My own experiences of travelling, exploring different environments, and learning about diverse cultures have shaped my love for geography and deepened my appreciation of how people and places are connected. I enjoy helping pupils make meaningful links between their local area and the wider world, encouraging them to ask questions, think critically, and develop a sense of responsibility for the environment. I believe geography is a vital subject that broadens children’s horizons, promotes cultural awareness, and equips them with knowledge and skills that will support them throughout their lives.

Experiences in our school:

At our school, we provide children with a wide range of exciting geography experiences that help them develop a curiosity and understanding of the world around them. Through topics such as Africa, the Amazon Rainforest, and the Rocky Mountains, pupils explore different climates, landscapes, cultures, and environments while developing important geographical skills. We also place a strong emphasis on learning about our local area, giving children opportunities to take part in local walks and fieldwork activities to observe and study the world around them first-hand. These experiences help pupils make meaningful connections between their own community and the wider world, encouraging them to ask questions, think critically, and develop an appreciation for both the environment and different cultures.

Hopes and goals in geography:

My goal is to continue developing a geography curriculum that inspires curiosity, broadens children’s horizons, and helps pupils develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. I hope to provide even more opportunities for children to take part in meaningful fieldwork, outdoor learning, and hands-on experiences that bring geography to life. I want pupils to leave our school with a strong knowledge of both their local area and the wider world, alongside an appreciation of different cultures, environments, and global issues such as sustainability and climate change. Through engaging topics, high-quality teaching, and memorable learning experiences, I aim to foster a lifelong interest in geography and encourage children to become thoughtful, informed, and responsible global citizens.
