My passion / personal experiences with History

My passion and personal experience with History

I have always been fascinated by History, particularly ancient civilisations and how life has changed over time. Exploring how people lived in the past compared to today has always captured my interest, and I am especially drawn to topics such as World War II, which I know is often a favourite among pupils. It feels particularly meaningful to me as I have family members who served in the war and were awarded medals, and I find the impact on everyday life during that time both powerful and thought-provoking.

Experiences in our school

I also enjoy visiting museums, castles and historical sites, with a personal highlight being a trip to Stonehenge—an experience that strongly connects to what we teach in Years 3 and 4.

Hope and goals in History

As History Lead, I am passionate about bringing the subject to life through engaging, hands-on experiences such as handling artefacts and visiting historical sites. A particular highlight is our visit to the National Coal Mining Museum when studying the Industrial Revolution, helping pupils understand the impact of coal mining on our local area. I aim to inspire pupils to develop a genuine love of History, encouraging them to be curious about the past and to understand how it has shaped the world they live in today. I want children to ask thoughtful questions, explore different perspectives and develop the skills to analyse historical sources, including questioning their reliability, so they become reflective and informed learners.
